It is true! It is true! Time flies when we are having fun. If you don't believe me, ask Pastor Lali... she is having a ball these days. I'm writing on behalf of Pastor Lali b/c she is just too busy (and so are the boys) to write and provide all the earth with an update on our dear, Pastor Santiago. By the way, Pastor Lali is busy preparing to speak at a Women's Sectional Service tommorow, in which she will give her testimony. Praise God! Pray for her that as she continues to tell others of God's faithfulness, she will encourage and build the faith of those who need it most.
As for Pastor Santiago... if you know him, you know he is no joke. He is himself once again!!! He has graduated out of a wheel chair, out of a walker and is now walking with a cane. Actually it looks like he is walking the cane as opposed to the cane being a support for him. Only Pastor!
If you haven't heard, Pastor has taken over speaking in the church; he is the exclusive preacher on Sundays and now on Thursdays as well. He is a preacher and loves to preach. I think since he has been back Pastor Mark got to preach hhm!.... a total of ONE time. Ha! Ha! That's Pastor for ya!
Pastor is busy getting therapy three times a week... soon Helen Hayes will promote him out of their services and back into the real world. I think Pastor's biggest struggle is not being able to drive and being dragged all over the place by his drivers. He does come to work almost every day (we actually have to tell him we are giving him the day off and he can stay home). Of course he does not listen to us! You try telling him after almost seven months away from his people, he should stay home. I don't think so! :-)
So we are grateful the Lord remains faithful. However, please do continue to pray for his left hand, his shoulder and his right leg. They seem a little more stubborn then the rest of the body. We need his entire body to be aligned properly, so we the body of Christ will follow suit.
The family is great, Pastor Mark continues to teach his SS class and to lead the worship team to new levels in the Lord. Mark has been investing more time in the development of the Sound Ministry (of which most of the members are under the age of 14). Please continue to pray for Mark and God's future plans for him and his family.
Sister Brenda is being renewed daily and strengthened in the Lord as she continues to lead intercession and remains faithful to the call. Please pray for her she is studying this semester and working full-time and of course raising three children.
John is doing well, God has shown himself faithful again and continues to show John that He is the one who gives and takes away. Amen! Pray for his God willed future.
As for big brother Rod, I think he is doing well. He has been helpful when I've had to S.O.S. call him to his parents house. Thanks Rod. I've ran into him a few times at the hospital and he remains to be himself (always got something funny to say, especially about me! ha! ha!). Pray for Rod and his family as God continues to draw them closer to Him.
As for the church, please pray, pray, pray and pray some more. God is sovereign and who are we to question, right? However, we are human and sometimes it is difficult to see God in situations. We do need to continue to believe and trust God in all areas of our lives. God is not man or the son of man to lie or to retract his promises. We must stand on the Word of God. God's word is true and he said "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who have been called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28)
God bless you all and thank you for impacting our lives in such a mighty way! You have served to be used of God to accomplish his purposes for and in us. Blessings to you and yours! - Marisel

Update
Dear Friends & Family,
September 10th, as you know we were able to finally bring Chris home. God continues to be our strong fortress and we ar grateful for His love and enduring mercy. We are also grateful for family and friends such as you. All of your prayers and supplications before God have reached His throne and mercy. THANK YOU!
I was going to HHH everyday including the weekends. On Sundays Mark,Brenda and the children would pick Chris up and take him to church. We would attend Sunday School and Chris would preach during the Sunday Service. Everyone has been very kind. We have hit some serious bumps, but God's grace has been sufficient to keep us afloat. After the service we would go to dinner...Chris likes the Cheesecake Factory. We also found a Latino restaurant in Haverstraw where they make some pretty good PR food. After eating we would take Chris back to the hospital and then go home. (Very sad leaving him there every Sunday after spending the day with him). The kids especially did not like it. Kathy, Kristin, Alicia and Joshua have all visited Papa. My three sons, Rodney, Mark and John have been beyond what one expects from offsprings. They have been my comfort and strength. Brenda has been awesome! What a fine woman of God we have been blessed with. Kathy has been supportive as well and so has Gina. John surprised me!! He preached one Sunday a couple of weeks ago and was used by God to minister to our church. Mark preaches frequently and he is very anointed and used by God. I feel so honored to have been gifted with these men of God. Our grandchildren are our pride and joy. Kristin went back to school (2nd year!! Alicia started school and Josh will be graduating from HS in two years. My little crew (Mark & Brenda's kids) David, Emily and Christian have also gone back to school. Everyone has really pulle together during this very trying time amd evem the children have shown understanding and compassion for Papa during these mamy months.
I continue to take Chris for Occupational therapy and exercises 3x a week. On our way home he stops at the church and does some work and checks the work going on. We go shopping for things we may need and then go home. He is back at doing his bookkeeping and I know that MARK is breathing a lot easier!!! Mark had become our bookkeeper. Thank you Mark, God Bless!
Chris is now using the walker only and we have put the wheelchair out of commission. Praise God....quite often Chris will walk around the house without the use of the walker as well. He truly is an inspiration. Not once have I heard him complainbe, other than when we were in Africa and he comlained because he couldn't go to church!!!
I do hope I haven't bored you with all this information; I just thought you't like an update. I will send pictures with my next blog which will probably be close to the last one.
Please write and let me know if you are still reading it.
Goodnight and God bless.

Lali
PS: Our church had a big welcoming home Fiesta for Chris this past Sunday. The church was packed and many ministers and their wives and visitors came. We felt very special and pleased having our Superintendent Rev. Rafael Reyes with us. Sister Eliza Carrion and Sister Ramonita Montes were also with us. As well zs the Women's District Leaders led by Sister Virginia Maldonado. (Her husband was also there!) Our Presbyter Rev. Joel Garcia and his wife were present as well. There were so many people and the festivity and the presence of the Lord was enjoyed by all. Mark preached and his sermon was a very anointed and powerful Word from God for the church. The congregation responded favorably and I know the Lord was in our midst. Praise God! I was especially pleased to have my sister Yoland and her hus band John present!!! Kathy, Joshie and Kristin surprised us as well...Alicia was in school and could not make it.
Chris and I are so blessed. Glory to God!!!!

!! !!
Please note that we have been really, really busy. Up until 9/10th when Chris was finally discharged from Helen Hayes Hospital my day went something like this: Get up and out of the house by at least 10:00 AM return at 8:30 - 9:30 PM or later. Go to bed at about 12:00PM (NOT TO SLEEP - that was difficult). I watched Pastor Melissa Scott and enjoyed her teachings. I then fell asleep and was up at 6:30 - 7:00 am. It was then OFF TO THE RACE!! Chris usually had physical therapy, etc from early in the morning until about 4:00PM, with a break for lunch. At about 5:00PM we had visitors come and spend time with Chris. We prayed and spoke about many things.Chris was comforted by the overwhelming response of his friends, brethren and family. Our ROCK OF SALVATION FAMILY continued to provide Chris with homemade food which was quite delicious. (His weight gain proves that!) It gave me great comfort to see how the ladies from our church made sure that their Pastor was well cared for. May God richly bless them and their family for their devotion to God's Servant.
District Office and the people there were also very kind and helpful.

My God Is An Awesome God...
Chris, my family and I have settled in for the remainder of our journey. I anticipate that God will soon complete Chris' healing process and we can get on with the job of working for HIM.
Chris continues to improve and now he is moving more than he has since this all began. His knees and arms are getting stronger and the O.T.'s are standing him more and more. Everyone is quite pleased with his progress. Just want to mention some more "little" miracles. Many of the nurses, attendants, aids and hospital workers are christians. It seems that the Haverstraw church Jerusalem, has many workers at the hospital..from nurses to lab technicians, to aids, etc. It just so happens that many years ago Chris met many of these people and he also knows their Pastor. Coincidence? Not! They all pop in to say hello and they have been a blessing.
Our women's ministry at our church has been making sure that Pastor is fed and he has already gained 8 lbs. He looks better and better each day. He is determined to walk out of that hospital and he will! Sunday (Father's Day) we took him to church; he said he was ready and off we went. He was all "decked out" and when we arrived everyone was surprised. The reception was marvelous and Pastor was very pleased. When it was his turn to speak, I thought he was going to preach, but he didn't..he just caught himself and stopped! WHAT A MAN! After the celebration, we took him out to dinner to a beautiful restaurant...Mark, Brenda and the kids. David, Emily and Christian. Marisel and Donald their children, Matthew and Marissa were also with us. We had a wonderful time and didn't bring Pastor back until after 9:00PM We did not get in trouble. The nurses welcomed and were happy that he had had a good time.
Parece que le gusto, porque manana (Sectional Service for the Upstate Section at our church) he wants to be there. When I got to the hospital he informed me that he had already seen the people in charge and gotten permission to go to church tomorrow. He is really something! He also arranged to be at church on Sunday. (He's Back!)
We are so very happy to be back. I am a very different woman. I feel so very close to our Lord and His presence is ALWAYS with me. I can't explain the feeling..you'll
just have to trust me and pray that you experience the same thing. I don't ever
want to be the "old" me...I like the "new" me much better!
I want to thank our church for their prayers and for arranging to have someone bring Pastor homemade food every day. We have a wonderful congregation and they truly love their Pastor. Thanks guys!
I will try to keep you informed. Please understand that when I come home it is usually late and I am very tired. I want to keep you up to date and I will try very hard to do that!
Please continue to pray and seek God's love and favor for all of us. He is always ready, willing and able to do exceedingly well for us.
Love * Blessings,
Lali

HOME AT LAST! HOME AT LAST! THANK GOD ALMIGHTY WE'RE HOME AT LAST!
Hello,
We've been rather busy lately and I was unable to get to all of you. However, I promised to keep in touch and so....
On May 26th, Dr. Rob Campbell, Mark, Chris and I left Port Elizabeth, South Africa. My Ebenezer Family was there to see us off. I had decided to be strong and we had a wonderful time togther. June, Judy my wonderful caretakers, Pranitha & Mo (nurses from Greenacres), people we had met during our stay, Senior Pastor Neville and his wife Roji, together with the other Pastors and their wives, as well as Allan & Ruvina, Marvin & Lendyll, Marina, Loretta, Gisselle and Douline, Kurt's mom and sister were all there. I was really strong until it came time to really say goodbye and then I lost it. I am truly sorry. These people had become my family, Jane Freeman had taken me to dinner the night before...it was just overwhelming to see all these people, my South African family and realize that I may never see some of them again! It was very painful for me knowing I had to say goodby. Chris was also very much affected. We went through the gates and I realized my life would never be the same.
We arrived in NY at about 7:30 A.M. on the 27th. It was a very long trip but one I thoroughly enjoyed knowing that I would soon see my grandchildren, my daughters-in-law, my sons, my sister Yolanda and John who live in NY as well and my church family! The only one who slept like a log was Chris!!! Mark, the doctor and I slept a bit but most of the time we were awake. Dr. Campbell took excellent care of Chris and I was soooo grateful for this one more blessing from God. We had a stop over in Johannesburg, SA and Chris slept for 5 hours in a "sick bay." Mark and I roamed the airport for a while and Dr. Campbell stayed with Chris. (Yes, we gave Doctor a break a bit later)
When we arrived at JFK Chris was quickly taken by ambulance to Helen Hayes Hospital. The attendants were friends of Don's brother and were wonderful. (one more little miracle of the 100's we experienced during these past months!) Mark and the doctor accompanied Chris and I went with Marisel, Brenda and the children. (my gorgeous, beautiful children) We finally arrived at the hospital and were very pleased with what we saw. It is a beautiful facility and when Chris arrived the people who welcomed him said, "Rev. Santiago, we know all about you! We have been waiting for you! (another little miracle. It appears that Chris is well known!) Dr. Peter Reynolds received us and made us feel very welcome. He told us that he is a theologist and then proceeded to tell us, "God heals the patients and we doctors collect the money!" Another little miracle, a believer!
(*a must tell: While we were waiting to board at Jo'berg we met a wonderful Jewish man from Astoria/Queens who was on his way to LA. He looked like a Rabbi and after sharing our stories, he said it was time for him to pray and asked Chris if it was alright to pray for him...adding it's the same God we pray to. Chris, of course was very grateful. Our new found friend proceeded to pray right then in there facing East! Another little miracle! )
Introductions were quickly made, Dr. Campbell went off with Dr. Reynolds and Marisel, Brenda, Mark the children and I went to see Chris. He looked very comfortable. We spent a little time with him, while Marisel took Dr. Campbell to his Guest House.
Mark and Brenda finally took me home and the experience of entering my home after 5 months was overwhelming. I had forgotten where I put certain things and had to get reacquainted.. Kathy, Kristin and Joshie came over. Rodney and Gina arrived a bit later. Brenda cooked and we all ate together. I was beside myself with happpiness. I thought while they were all talking, is this a dream? I am sooo very grateful for God's love and tender mercies. I feel so different..so strong in the Lord...so confident about who God is and what He means to me!!! I decided I would share all this with my church family on Sunday!
The next day we, Mark and I picked up Dr. Campbell and took him back to the hospital. He toured the facility with Dr. Reynolds, while Mark and I spent some precious time with Chris...he already had begun to look better!!! We then caught up with Dr. Campbell and went off with him to tour NYC - "The City That NEVER Sleeps." We took him to The Broadway Theater District, Times Square, the sight of the Twin Towers, The Statue of Liberty (from afar), The Empire State Building and other sights. We then went to eat at Victor's Cafe and enjoyed some delicious Cuban Cuisine. The Doctor was quite impressed with everything. We had a wonderful time with the very personable, charming and kind Doctor who has become our friend. THe next day we again picked up Dr. Campbell, he went to say goodbye to Chris and to Doctor Reynolds. We then took him to the airport. I shall never forget him.
Sunday arrived sooner than I expected and pretty soon I was entering my church. I don't know exactly what happened but I began to shake from head to toe and became very frightened. I ran up the steps to Chris' office and waited for a while, then ran down the steps and Brenda led me to be seated in the sanctuary. I could not stop shaking. After a while I was able to get a grip on myself and listen to Mark speaking. He introduced me and I was able to speak to my church family. I had missed them, but had not realized how much until I looked at all of them. I was home. God had gone with us to Africa and God had come back home with us. WHAT A MIGHTY GOD WE SERVE! One of my most treasured moments was having my sister Yolanda and her husband John and my nephew Adam there in church with us. WOW, isn't generous with his gifts?
We, my family, my church family and friends have been visiting Chris and he has turned another corner to recovery. He looks wonderful! He is happy and is constantly smiling. He is eating and looking forward to visiting his church. We thought it wise to have him rest a while and then go to visit his beloved Rock of Salvation.
His stay at Helen Hayes may be short. I am trusting God that it will not be as long as some may think. Amen?
Please keep praying. If you are still reading the blog, please let me know and I will continue it until it is time to say, Chris is home and he has gone back to work!!
God Bless,
Lali
PS: I will send you pictures of the airport farewell some other time. I really cannot look at them just yet. I know you will understand!
